Vitale da Bologna, Noah and the Dove

1351-60
Fresco
Pomposa Abbey, Codigoro, Italy

On the left Noah releases the dove; on the right, the dove returns. In this image the ark does not look much like a church, more like a snug little chest. Ironically, the submerged building on the left is a stylized image of the abbey church in which this fresco is found.
